Morning Glory Fiber Fil
As most of you know Walmart has stopped carrying Morning Glory fiber fil. I have found out that the only place to purchase Morning Glory is from the distributer, Marshall's Dry Goods, 888-744-8277. They sell a 5lb box for 11.21. Shipping is seperate. You can purchase a case of 20 for 14.13 a case that includes shipping but who has a barn to store it in? If you have a lot of friends in your area who are interested in purchasing a case it may be worth your while. In the meantime I sent an email to Walmart's customer service advising them of my displeasure of their decision to discontinue and asked if they don't want to carry it in their stores if they could at least sell it on line as Site to Store. Will get back if they respond.

Here are a few pictures of the "Bathing Beauties". I think they are adorable with their ample busoms and bellies and their tiny shoes. Their bathing caps are embellished with feathers and flowers as is their behinds. Their faces have been drawn on with artist pencils and their hair is sheep's wool. They are all wearing little bracelets made from seed beads. They are a fun doll and can't wait for beach weather!

Apr 05 2010It is that time of the year when I have to admit that I have too much "stuff". By stuff I mean all the dolls that I have hanging around my studio. Doll parts, doll clothes and in particular dolls that I made a while ago. Before primitives I was teaching myself how to make those gorgeous art and fashion dolls. I admit they were a lot of work, but just not my style. I ran across some cuties though I call "The Bathing Beauties" that I will be posting in a day or two. Cleaning house gives me a sense of renewal, like Spring, and ..........room for more stuff!!!!!

I typically use sheep's wool for hair on all my dolls but discovered this wonderful crinkly synthetic hair and used it on Little Girl #3. Isn't she a doll? (no pun intended)

I have been working on different painting techniques for my dollies. I have finish a couple and thought their little faces turned out cute. I wanted them to have a the look of an old composition doll's face.
Instead of coffee staining these dolls I left them as is. I used brighter colrs on them and they are wearing used baby shoes. They are 27" tall and if interested in purchasing please visit me at www.whenimold.etsy.com

This post has nothing to do with dolls but to me Mother Nature is awe inspiring I wanted to share this picture. One of my daughter's and mine favorite things to do, other than going to the beach, is taking pictures of the sunsets at the beach. I wanted to share one of the photos I took last evening, 1-23-2010, at Torry Pines Beach in San Diego.........

Jan 19 2010After all the hussle and bussle of the holidays it seems that time has come to a halt. Of course it hasn't, we have Valentine's Day just around the corner. Busy sewing and trying to keep up with Etsy, this blog, FB, there are so many that I find that I am spending more and more time on the PC than ever before. I am sure that I am not the only one. I am just glad that those people out there in cyber space have made it easier for pre-senior citizens (I will always be a pre-senior citizen) to use the internet. Anyone remember the pre-Windows days. I guess I am aging myself.
I have finished a couple of dolls for Valentine's Day and if I can remember how to post them check them out.

Summer is almost gone although you would never know it here in So Cal where the temperature has been 101 - 104 for the last couple of weeks.
I have been busy doubling my inventory for a boutique being held in November. I have been working on a lot of Halloween dolls and of course angels.

Another first for me. A witch made from my own pattern. One thing I have learned from making her is that after heavy staining a light colored wash works very well. It gives just a hint of color and gives the doll a truely worn look.
I think she turned out very cute.

Well first doll I made from my own pattern is finished. I am calling her "Lovey". I have incorporated all the forms that I love about primitive dolls, i.e. long skinny legs, big feet and I prefer for them to have fingers versus the mitten hands. Her face is machine sculpted which becomes easier the more you do however I think the next doll will have a pancake face and I will paint her features on.
Lovey's underskirt was made from a used shear curtain and I added lace to the bottom that I found at a thrift shop. Her dress is made from left over material from another project. Her hat is a little unusual, I have been making so many witches hats lately the shape just drew itself. The bling around her hat I still am not sure about. May have to find something a little smaller and not so flashy.
I have great respect for all those designers out there, especially all those designers who come up with such unique and wonderful designs. I am going to try a few more of my own designs, perhaps a witch, and see what happens. Right now I don't think that pattern making is my forte.
